Sex Myths-masturbation,wet dreams and more..

Our culture has not allowed of discussion of sexual feelings and experiences openly resulting in a number of myths being perpetuated, making it further difficult for men to admit lack of knowledge and experience. Masturbation is harmful!!! Wet Dreams are an unhealthy sign!! Conservation of semen is a must!! These are just few of the endless of myths surrounding male sexuality. In this post we look at certain myths surrounding male sexuality. It includes questions you would like to reflect upon, whether you are a male or female and hence aims at benefiting both the partners.

Sex Myth 1

Masturbation is a dirty habit and is harmful?

Reality: One of the very popular myths, in fact masturbation is beneficial. Masturbation helps relieve stress. What a penis does inside a women’s vagina during sexual intercourse, the same happens in a folded palm during masturbation. There is nothing like excessive masturbation, and doesn’t result in weakening of penis, just as a tongue does not weaken if we go on speaking. Masturbation does not damage the physiological functioning of the body or cause any mental symptoms. However, severe guilt associated with masturbation can lead to emotional reactions such as anxiety, depression and may be even obsessive compulsive tendencies. Masturbation provides an outlet for release of sexual tension; however, excess of anything is bad. Masturbation should not become a preoccupation to the extent of exclusion of normal activities and relationships.

Sex Myth 2

Sleep emissions or wet dreams is a disease?

Reality: Semen is manufactured constantly. If there is a glass full of water, and you add more to it, it overflows. Similarly if one does not indulge in sexual intercourse or masturbation, semen will spill out as wet dreams, and is hence, absolutely normal.

Sex Myth 3

Semen is vital and needs to be preserved?

Reality: Semen is vital for the sole purpose of conception. It is secreted continuously by the genital apparatus. Even if you don’t masturbate, semen will be released from your body, from time to time, in the form of wet dreams. Also quantity and consistency of semen varies depends upon intensity of stimulation, period of abstinence and age. It varies from white to light yellow and consistency thins down, as a man ages. However this doesn’t affect a man’s desire, his sexual stimulation or his response to sexual enjoyment.

Sex Myth 4

Men need more sex than women.

Reality: While it is true that male sexual response is more automatic, and arousal is quicker and reflexive in nature, it by no means implies that men have a greater sexual need in quantitative terms. Given enough time and energy, women can equal, and even surpass men in their desire for sex. It is the repressive cultural and social ‘values’ that have taught women to be more demure and sexually.

Sex Myth 5

A man with longer penis can satisfy his partner better?

Reality: The average length of a vagina is 6 inches. Only the outer 1/3 rd part is sensitive. The remaining 2/3rds is virtually insensitive. Hence for female gratification, any penis size more than 2 inches will do. In fact it’s not the size of penis but the technique that you use, the foreplay, by which you can make you partner desire you and give her endless satisfaction. Also During ejaculation (if inside a vagina), semen enters the vaginal tract, and from thereon, sperms swim their way to the uterus to fertilize the egg. This takes place irrespective of the size of penis, as long as ejaculation has taken place inside the vagina.

Reality: While it is true that male sexual response is more automatic, and arousal is quicker and reflexive in nature, it by no means implies that men have a greater sexual
