Comfortable Positions for Sex during Pregnancy

Pages: Page 1 Page 2

Sex during pregnancy can be a complicated thing. Positions that you once found comfortable and exciting may become unpleasant or even painful, owing to the changes in your body There a variety of mental and emotional factors that go into it, such as increased or decreased libido, fear of hurting the baby etc. People generally have queries regarding the apt and comfortable positions for having intercourse during pregnancy.

The two popularly found pregnancy questions with respect to sex during pregnancy are:

  1. People tend to take pregnant women as extremely fragile and often treat them weak. However this holds true in cases where the woman has gone through a few miscarriages or premature deliveries but not otherwise.
  2. People also are really conscious as to whether they would do it the right way or not, will it be safe for the baby etc. This is not true. There are infinite safe ways to have sex during pregnancy.

As a general rule, a good position for sex during pregnancy is one where:

  • Both partners are physically comfortable.
  • The position allows for the kind of sex and physical contact you want to have.
  • Both partners avoid putting pressure on the uterus, or a partner’s full weight on a pregnant belly.

Experts say that women should avoid lying on their back or right side for long periods of time after four months into the pregnancy as the weight of your uterus could block blood vessels that supply your uterus and legs.

Some of the sexual positions that you and your partner can use during pregnancy to overcome the physical difficulties are:

Woman on Top

One of the best positions during pregnancy is the Woman on top position. Sometimes known as the Cowgirl, this position takes all of the pressure off of the woman’s abdomen, and also allows her to control the speed and the depth of thrusting. Later in the pregnancy you may find this position more tiring but still it is the ideal position for most women.

Missionary on the Edge

The missionary position is often uncomfortable for a woman during pregnancy. The weight of the man’s body pushing on her abdomen can cause severe discomfort even in early pregnancy, and especially during later pregnancy when the woman’s abdomen has expanded. One variety of the missionary position, sometimes called Missionary on the Edge, will often work up until the beginning of the fifth month of pregnancy. For this position, the woman lays on her back at the foot of the bed with her knees bent. She should perch her feet at the edge of the mattress. The man then either stands or he kneels in front of her.

Another position called Woman on Back is like the missionary position only without any added pressure to your abdomen or uterus. You lie on your back and raise your knees up towards your chest. Your partner then kneels between your legs and enters from the front. You can even rest your feet on your partner’s chest for support. Place a pillow under your bottom for added comfort. This position isn’t recommended after the fourth month.
